Prison Depart is headed by Inspector General of Prisons. The details of Jails is as under:-
(a) Central Jails 3
(b) District Jails 7
(c) Sub-Jails 8
(d) Judicial Lockups 3
Achivements
Conversion of Quarantine Section of Haripur Jail into Women Jail besides improvement of 22 flush systems latrines, installation of 20 fans, and construction of water tank.
DIKhan. Water supply scheme under Khushal Pakistan Programme.
Nowshera. Additional of two new barracks.
Improvements made in District Jails Swat and Abbottabad.
  Rehabilitation o Prisoners

 Religious education made compulsory.
 Prisoners encouraged to improve education qualification.

New Projects.
  Construction of new Jail at Peshawar (Jallozai), Bannu and Mansehra.
Prison Management Information System.
PC?I 8.733 million (75% Federal and 25% Provincial Share)
All the Jails will be connected through Computers and all data computerised
Probation Department
Presently 3059 Probationers are on the payroll of Probation Department against    2837 Probationers on 30.6.2001. This has saved dietary charges to the tune of 20    million rupees.
Construction of Borstal Institution at Bannu Rs.25 million for year 2002?03.
Recommendations
Construction of Jails of Mardan, Hangu, Malakand, Lakki, Tank and Shangla.
More allocations of funds for improving living conditions of Jails as against current capacity of 7397 prisoners the present population of prisoners is 10439.
Improvement of existing Jails Phase II. Rs.10 millions.
