To facilitate & provide technical assistance to small mining concessionaries.
To provide laboratory facilities in mineral testing & analysis.
Exploration data generation through implementation of ADP & PSDP funded schemes     including training to small mining operations in gemstone/marble-granite.
Implementation of R&D projects of Ministry of Science & Technology and training    programme relating to identification. Categorization, evaluation & value addition of gems    to facilitate private sector.

Assessment & evaluation of mineral tenement for grant of P/L & M/L by Licensing Division.

Functions of Exploration Promotion Division

To generates basic data of mineral potential of the province.
To establish Geo database for storage & processing of mineral data using GIS format.
Creation of GIS/RS geo-database as source of Mineral Management Information System.
Provision of Technical assistance and guidance to small mining operations and mineral    processing.
Provision of upgraded mineral testing facilities to private sector.
Formulation of conducive mining concession rule to attract investment for    environment- friendly development and exploitation of mineral resources and basing    industries in the province.
Province of health and social facilities to mine workers.
Strengthening of Directorate General Mine & Mineral NWFP to discharge the above    responsibilities effective.
Infrastructure development including accessibility to the mineral bearing areas.
Mechanization of mining and mineral processing/value addition industry.
Marketing support for mineral commodities.
Facilities of technical service to small-scale operations.
Linkage development amongst industry, mineral department’s traders and private    sector/ mineral investors.

Titles & licensing Division

To grant mining concession (prospecting licensces & mining leases) for various minerals.
Collection/ auction of Royalty in Minerals
Collect and compile mineral production data and publish it for the information of    Government and General public.
Prepare technical comments/ reports on various issues of public and private sector in    mining concessions.
Control unauthorized excavation/transportation of minerals.
Recommend Policies for resource mobilization for development of Mineral Sector.

Inspectorate of Mines Labour Welfare Division

Welfare of mining community and safety of mines workers.
Enforcement of Mining Laws.
Carry out Inspections to Minimize fatal accidents in mines
Look after the mines sites and safety of the mine workers.
Conducting Mines Sirdar/ Surveyors/ Shot Firer & second class certification of Competency.
Training courses for mine workers
      Excise duty on 27 minerals at different rates for the welfare of mines workers.
