Employees Social Security Instituting

Introduction

The Employees Social Security Institution was promulgated in 1965 to introduce a scheme of Social Security for providing medical Care and different cash benefits of long and short terms to certain employees and their dependants in the event of sickness, maternity, employment injury and death. The benefits admissible under the scheme are as under:

Medical Care

The Institution has established one Poly-clinic at Peshawar, a medical center at Nowshera, 16 dispensaries and 8 medical posts, in various parts of the Province. The Institution is providing the following medical care facilities and different cash benefits to 42,000 secured workers as well as 210,000 dependants of 2565 industrial units/establishments throughout the Province.

Free medical care for secured workers and their dependants including parents.
Specialist care in Government hospitals for indoor and out door surgical, cancer and cardiac patients.
Provision of free life saving drugs from dispensaries.
Dental Care
Treatment of employment injury.
T.B patients are entitled for short and long term treatment.

For hospitalization of the secured workers and their dependants, the Institution has made arrangements with the Government Hospitals in various Social Security areas.
The dependants of the deceased workers are also entitled to hospitalization and specialist treatment.

The Institution has appointed its own specialists in the specialties. I.e. Chest, Skin,
 
Pediatric and Gynaecology.

Cash Benefits


The Institution is providing the following cash benefits to the secured workers:

Sickness benefit 75% of secured worker’s wages for 120 days in a calendar year.
Injury benefit 100% of secured workers’ wages 180 days in a calendar year.
Incase of cancer and T.B 75% for 365 days in a calendar year.
Maternity benefit to female secured workers only.
Death grant
Disablement pension
Disablement gratuity
Survivor’s pension
Iddat benefit 100% of wages for four months

The ESSI is also responsible for revenue collection for its own organization as well as for the Workers Children Education Board.
