Functions

Labour Wing

• Settlement of industrial disputes, individual and collective grievances.
• Implementation/enforcement of labour laws through periodic inspections.
• Payment of compensation to the industrial workers under Workmen Compensation Act, 1923 and adjudication of claims under the Payment of Wages Act.
• Enforcement of international system of weights and measures.
• Registration of trade unions and settlement of their disputes.
• Enforcement of the Employment of Children Act, 1991 for elimination of child labour.
• Fixation of minimum wages
• Collection, compilation and dissemination of labour statistics.
• Playing its role in tripartite bodies, tripartite conferences and ILOIPEC.
• Implementation of government policies and assisting the district governments in connection with their functions.
• Realization of reasonable good amount of government revenue.

Industry wing

• Promotion and development of industries in the Province.
• Implementation of industrial policies framed by the government from time to time.
• Registration and inspection of Boilers.
• Registration of Firms under the Partnership Act, 1932.
• Registration of societies under the Societies Act, 1860.
• Registration of non-trading companies within NWFP under the Companies Ordinance, 1984.
• Collection of industrial statistics and government receipts.
• Assisting to Federal Government in formulation of its trade policy, keeping in view the geographical location of NWFP.
• Liaison amongst the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). All Pakistan Commercial Exporter Association (APCEA), Petroleum Dealers Association and the Federal Government for their day today affairs of above agencies with respect to trade and commerce.
• Acting as focal point for WTO.
• Monitoring the process of CNG filling stations in the province and assisting the District Governments in formulating their by the laws for CNG filling Stations.
