Introduction
The Directorate of Technical Education was
an attached department of Education Department
of NWFP. The Provincial Government vide Notification
No. SO (O&M) S&GAD/8-1/2001 dated
10.5.2001 has transferred the said Directorate
from Education Department to Industries Department.
Keeping in view the similar activities of
the Directorate of Technical Education and
Directorate of Manpower & Training, both
the Directorates have been merged and re-designed
as Directorate of Technical Education and
Manpower Training NWFP.
This Directorate as the following components:
- Commerce Colleges / Commercial Training
Institute
- College of Technology / Polytechnic
Institute
- Vocational Training Centers.
- Apprenticeship Training Scheme in Industrial
Sector
- Employment Exchanges
The Provincial Government
has created Technical Education & Vocational
Training Authority (TEVTA), through an Ordinance
on 17.9.2002 to take over all the existing
Polytechnics, Commercial Training Institutes
and Colleges, Technical & Vocational Training
Centers in the public sector and set up new
institutions offering courses which are demand
driven and meet the m market needs. The Agency
shall consist of sixteen members, including
the Chairman, to be appointed by the Government
from private sector. The position of Chairman
TEVTA was advertised on 19.9.2002 and selection
finalizes, which is pending approval of the
Government.
The vision for TEVTA is to
establish a meaningful linkage with the industry
and to assist in the formulation of a demand
driven curricula, timely and appropriate response
to the changes in the market/technologies
through decentralization of functions and
powers and grant of maximum autonomy to the
institutions. The functions of the authority
are as under:
The Authority shall take over all the Polytechnics,
Commercial Training Institutes and Colleges,
Technical and Vocational Training Centers
under the administrative control of Directorate
of Technical Education and Manpower Training.
The institutions taken over by the Authority
under sub-section (1) shall be regulated and
administered by the Authority.
The Authority may setup new institutions offering
subjects/courses similar to the courses of
the institutions mentioned in the sub-section
(1).
The Authority shall perform such other functions
in the field of technical and commercial education
and vocational training as may be prescribed
by the rules. |
