To Coordinate Provincial Science & Information Technology efforts with the National Science & Information Technology Program and obtain adequate funding from the Federal Ministry of Science & Technology.

To promote Science & Information Technology efforts for economic development in NWFP in an organized manner in the major identified areas of priority i.e.

Human Resource Development.

Launching of R&D Program and up-gradation of its infrastructure.

Restructuring of R&D Organizations.

Industrial Development.

Strengthening of Policy, Coordination and Management Structure.

Funding and project implementation mechanism.

To initiate Science & Information Technology Projects in the Province in Agriculture, Housing, Industry, Health, Education, Forestry, Energy, Pharmaceuticals and small Cottage Industry including pilot plant studies.

To monitor the outcome and result of Science & Technology Projects initiated in the province and provide policy guidelines to R&D instructions for their restructuring and enhancement of Science & Technology activities.

Planning, coordination, promotion and development of Science & Technology monitoring & evaluation of research and development works, including scrutiny of development projects and coordination and development program in this field.

To advise provincial Government: Departments and other institutions on the introduction and usage of Information Technology.

To promote usage of Information Technology and Science & Technology by awarding scholarships, awards, certificates, holding of seminars, workshops in service training and acquiring higher education.

To promote the education of Science and Information Technology in all the education institutions in phases.

To establish a system of check over the working of Districts’ Science & Technology and Information Technology Departments for input support in policy-making especially the following:

Coordination with public & private sector for promotion of IT.

Promotion of IT Education and Training.

Interfacing with National and International IT Markets and Industry.

Providing Business support to local IT Companies, in software export.

Development of strategies for E-commerce.

Over seeing establishment of IT parks etc.

Coordination with all relevant agencies.

Computerization in government departments.
