| After
assuming its responsibilities, the present
Provincial Government took serious steps
for the welfare of general public. The
Provincial Government took serious notice
of the refund of unspent Zakat fund,
amounting to Rs 17 Crore, to the Central
Zakat Fund during the year 2001-02 and
decided that total Zakat allocation
to the province will, in future, be
utilized in a transparent manner. For
this purpose, the Provincial Government
adopted the following measures :- |

A network of volunteers
was spread right from District to the
local level o assist the Local Zakat Committees
in selection of real deserving persons
and to ensure timely disbursement of Guzara
Allowance amongst them. |
|
The Mohtamim of Deeni Madaris did not
take interest in providing Zakat scholarships
to their students. The Provincial Government
planned to persuade them for the same
and provided them assistance and cooperation
to complete legal formalities in this
connection, due to which the students
getting religious education also benefited
from Zakat Fund. |

Patients Welfare Committees were established
in District and Tehsil HQs hospitals and
they were informed of the Zakat Disbursements
Procedure, which could help in quick financial
assistance and treatment of Mustahiq-e-Zakat
patients. |
|
Regular meetings of Chairmen District
Zakat Committees and District Zakat Officers
were convened and necessary instructions
were issued to them. |
|
Above measures in
connection with disbursement of Zakat
fund :- |
|
|
883 million has been disbursed amongst
1799,490 Mustahiqen-e-Zakat, especially
the widows, orphans and disabled persons,
which enabled them to earn livelihood
for their families. |
|
231,659 students of educational institutions
from Primary to Professional Colleges/
Universities were given Zakat scholarships
worth Rs. 364 million at different rates,
which supported these students to complete
their education. |
|
A sum of Rs. 97,579 million was distributed
amongst 40425 students of Deeni Madaris
as Zakat scholarships and food charges
for the boarder students, which proved
beneficial for these students in getting
religious education. |
|
63630 patients suffering from various
diseases have been provided treatment
facilities at District and Tehsil HQs
hospitals at a total cost of Rs. 88.176
million. |
|
A large number of
Mustahiqeen-e-Zakat is getting training
in various institutions of Social Welfare,
so that they could prove respectable and
useful citizens. 14902 trainers of Social
Welfare institutions have been granted
a total amount of Rs 58.386 million as
Zakat scholarships. |

A sum of Rs. 10,000 is given to a Mustahiq
woman at the time of her marriage out
of Zakat fund. Under this head, Rs. 580766
million has been distributed amongst 58766
Musahiqeen. |

During the period, financial assistance
worth Rs. 1464.792 million has been provided
to 113905 deserving persons under Special
Rehabilitation scheme at the rate of Rs.
10,000 to 50,000 per head. This scheme
enabled the beneficiaries to start small
scale business for earning livelihood
for their families and to become respectable
citizen of the country. In future, these
beneficiaries will become Zakat payers. |

Rehabilitation of Mustahiq-e-Zakat skilled
persons was also a challenge for the present
Government. The Provincial Government
took interest in this regard, due to which
a scheme for imparting training to these
Mustahiqeen in the trades of their choice
was launched through various Technical
and Vocational Centers in the province.
A sum of Rs. 409.338million has been allocated
for this purpose, which will benefit 37213
Mustahiqeen-e-Zakat. After getting training
these people will not only earn livelihood
for themselves but will also be a source
of development in the country. |

A sum of 77199 million has been distributed
amongst 154398 recipients of Guzara Allowance
at the rate of Rs.500 per head as Ramzan/Eid
Grant, so that they could equally share
the happy day of Eid with others. |
